Seaside Bathroom Design

  Nestled on the breathtaking California coast, this bathroom renovation project presented a unique opportunity to revitalize a space with "great bones" and original Saltillo tile. Beyond addressing essential water damage, the core challenge was to create an updated bathroom that profoundly embodied our client's deep connection to nature, while providing a supremely comfortable, beautiful, and highly functional space for both the homeowner and his frequent coastal visitors.

  Our design philosophy for this project was to marry Mediterranean elegance with the serene beauty of the surrounding coastal landscape. This inspiration guided our meticulous material sourcing, leading us to discover exquisite Zellige handmade tiles from Morocco – each piece imbued with unique character and a rich history. To further accent the space, we carefully selected decorative pattern tiles in a captivating blue-green palette, strategically integrating them to create visual interest while respectfully salvaging the home's original, beautiful Saltillo tile. This harmonious blend of old and new celebrates the property's heritage while ushering in a fresh, contemporary feel.

  Beyond aesthetics, functionality and thoughtful space planning were paramount. We updated the plumbing finishes, introducing striking contrast against the classic Santa Barbara style walls and arched doorways. This subtle yet impactful change enhances the overall design, drawing the eye and adding a layer of sophistication. To optimize space within the naturally smaller bathrooms, we incorporated custom rift white oak pocket doors, a clever solution that maximizes usable area without sacrificing style.

  Addressing both immediate needs and future considerations, the guest bathroom now features a versatile shower and tub system – ideal for accommodating visitors and any future growing families. For the homeowner's daily ease and long-term accessibility, the main bathroom boasts a spacious walk-in shower. A crucial element that truly brings the outside in, and reinforces the connection to nature, is the addition of a skylight in each shower. These strategically placed skylights flood the spaces with natural light, enhancing the tranquil atmosphere and creating an undeniable link to the expansive coastal environment.
